With the new year upon us, and my WordPress website now over 2 years old (with minimal updates in that time frame), I felt it was time for a refresh with AKPHOTO.com, and completely redesigned my website for 2015! It took quite a bit of time going back through my portfolio and re-exporting all the images I wanted to used, but I think the end result was well worth it.
For this new AKPHOTO.com v2.0, I switched over to SquareSpace for hosting. While it is... Read More
Canon's latest APS-C crop sensor camera, the 7D Mark II, has been praised for it's buffer and burst speed, and while it will make a killer sports, wildlife and action camera, I think the improved ISOs and extra reach of the crop sensor will make it a great tool as a low light events camera. Occassionally the call comes in for a big gig, and it's hard to be anything but excited. Photographing a lot of corporate headshots on location for a sales team is always fun; I really do enjoy meeting people, learning about their different businesses, and trying to make sure they convey their personality and style in their photos. But then there's always the twist that brings my blood-pressure to a new level. Max Appel had attended DU, and with the success of his OrangeGlo and OxiClean products, the University was doing a profile on him for the Daniels College of Business Fall Business Review. This is a journal that has a circulation of approximately 40,000, and is provided to all existing students and alumni. Just having the chance to work with Max Appel, the founder of OxiClean and the guy who gave Bill Mays his first big break, was going to be a blast!
The shoot took place at Max's offices in south Denver, and I was a bit surprised to find out that Max only had about 40 minutes available... Read More
The Perseid Meteor Shower
When I heard about the Perseid meteor shower I decided early on that I wanted to try and shoot it from the summit of Mount Evans in Arapaho National Forest. One of my main photography passions is astrophotography and the long exposure star trail; but I thought I'd try some shorter-exposure high-ISO work with the 5D3, to capture "frozen" stars with a meteor streak in the shot. I realize that getting such a shot requires a lot of luck, but I set out with this goal in mind none the less... Read More
