Model Photography :: In Studio and On Location in Denver

Photography for model portfolios can be hit or miss, depending on the experience of the model and the look an agent is going for; but sometimes you just get lucky. I would definitely say I got lucky shooting Kirsten last week. We started out in the studio, shooting a variety of poses on the white seemless background. As the session moved into the second hour, I suggested venturing outside. I was a little concerned the cold weather would scare her off, but Kirsten never hesitated - we ran right out to work in the falling snow! Cloudy days can provide some of the best environments for shooting, due to the diffuse/uniform light provided by an overcast sky. By then supplementing the diffuse sunlight with some speedlights, or an assistant with a reflector, you can achieve some outdoor shots that really pop - and have that studio quality look. For this shoot I used speedlights for some shots and reflectors for others; even mixing the two together for a few shots. The falling snow also provided a unique look that gave a little something extra to each photo. All in all, the proof gallery I provided to Kirsten was a big hit!
