Abby at the Gardens :: Child Portraits

Shooting child portraits are always a blast for me; kids are (usually) fun to be around and can be very energetic in front of the camera. Abby was no exception - she was a total ham who loved expressing herself! Having this kind of subject can really make my work easy, and helps give the family photos that they will cherish for a long time to come! For this shoot I used a 70-200 f/2.8 telephoto lens. This kind of long lens with a wide aperture really helps to blur out the background, which can provide some separation to make Abby pop from the image a little more. I also had an assistant use a handheld reflector for a few shots; the extra light is used to fill in the shadows that can form as the morning sun gets higher in the sky.
